What is the price for adding a US Legal Shield?
Our US Legal Shield is included with the Production Plan and higher at no additional cost. It is not available with the Free and Developer plans.
What does the US Legal Shield cover?
Our US Legal Shield covers the scraping and parsing of data as long as it is not otherwise illegal. Illegal use includes, but is not limited to: acts of cyber criminality, terrorism, pedopornography, denial of service attacks, and war crimes. Basically, we cover all legal risks related to extracting search data (scraping, parsing, and everything in between), but not the actual use of the data itself. You should consult your own counsel regarding data usage, as its legality may vary, and this falls outside the scope of our US Legal Shield.
Does this apply to countries outside the US?
Yes, our US Legal Shield covers both U.S. and international companies and individuals.
How effectively has the US Legal Shield protected your customers?
All of our customers have been 100% protected since we started in 2017, and $0 in damages have been paid by our customers for web scraping.
Do I need extra set up?
No — coverage begins automatically when you subscribe to our Production Plan or higher.
Are there any limitations or exclusions?
Yes, there may be certain exclusions outlined in the policy (for example, scraping protected or gated content without proper authorization). We recommend reviewing the full policy or speaking with a SerpApi representative to understand any exclusions.
Do I need to hire my own lawyer if a legal dispute arises?
You can always choose your own legal counsel, but with the US Legal Shield, SerpApi’s dedicated legal team takes the lead in managing disputes and covering the associated costs, as per our policy.

What if the legal claim exceeds $2 million?
Our coverage provides up to $2 million in protection. If a settlement or judgment exceeds this amount, you would be responsible for the difference. However, we work diligently to resolve cases efficiently and effectively to minimize any additional expenses.
